AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Project Engineer for employment in the Burnaby, BC office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. In this role, entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM’s Graduate Development Program (GDP), a 2-year development experience designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

The Water Division of AECOM is actively growing its municipal water and wastewater engineering practice within BC. This is opening up challenging career opportunities for new and recent university graduates who are excited about kick starting their career. The successful candidate(s) will join our team as a supporting project engineer for the design of expansions or upgrades to pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, as well as the design of new water and wastewater linear infrastructure.

Job Description

• Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignment are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

• Undertake preliminary and detailed engineering design activities under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

• Exercise judgement limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

• Equipment selection and liaison with equipment suppliers and vendors.

• Preparation of technical specifications, special provisions and forms of tender.

• Collect and analyze data under the supervision of an experienced engineer. • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems. • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.

• Review of quantity and cost estimates for completeness and accuracy

• Provision of contract administration services during the construction of water and wastewater infrastructure and facilities

• Work independently and as part of a team to complete water and wastewater infrastructure assignments.

• Prepare technical reports and analysis to support project assignments.

• Actively engage in professional development and industry events

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering

  • Eligibility for registration in EGBC as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, work processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, AutoCAD, BioWin, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)

  • Experience with project management concepts and principles
