As a part of our continued growth, our Burnaby, BC office is seeking a motivated and skilled EIC (Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Communications) Design Engineer to support studies, engineering design, procurement and execution of infrastructure for both surface and underground mines. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to deliver various mining projects for our clients here in Canada and occasionally overseas.
This position will enable you to utilize your strong technical skills and knowledge within the team, with the possibility of site construction and commissioning assistance. You may get the opportunity to travel to client sites as required for short term assignments.
Reporting to the EIC Lead, the responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Demonstrate creativity, proactiveness, foresight and mature judgement in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges.
Ensure project work is undertaken in accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems.
Work within a project team environment and possess good presentation and client (internal & external) interface skills. This may include regular liaison with a mix of in-person and remote team members, to deliver a variety of projects.
Undertake field investigation to facilitate project delivery as required.
Stays abreast of industry standards and implements best practices.
Undertake EIC engineering design including equipment selection, sizing, calculations, cost estimates and vendor liaison.
Develop EIC engineering documentation including engineering lists (load list, IO list, instrument and equipment list), specifications, cable schedules, power system modelling in eTAP or PTW.
Provide clear instructions and decisions to enable engineering drawings preparation. Drawings may include MV / LV single line diagrams, MCC schematics, PLC / DCS termination diagrams, communications block diagrams, site equipment and services reticulation layouts, EHouse general arrangements, outdoor substation general arrangements, etc.
Produce procurement packages for EIC equipment and installation scope of work to facilitate project tender process.
Produce engineering reports using sound engineering logic and written expression in English that is cohesive, clear and concise on EIC subject matters.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with +4 years’ relevant working experience.
Demonstrated experience in the design and specification of industrial systems such as LV distribution, controls and communications, safety systems and motor controls.
Demonstrated experience in producing engineering documentation such as technical specifications, datasheets and scope of works.
Demonstrated experience in using eTAP, PTW or other equivalent power system modelling tools.
Possess current knowledge of the relevant industry standards and their application for compliant designs.
Proficient with Microsoft software including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, enter underground mining environments.
Able to travel by domestic air travel within Canada.
Valid Class V Driver’s License.
Experience in working within an engineering firm to deliver studies and engineering design for mine infrastructure including bulk materials handling, substation and services reticulation.
Proficient with Microsoft Project, One Note, Teams and Sharepoint.
Registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia or eligible to register within 6-12 months.
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
