AECOM Canada Dams Practice Leader in Burnaby, British Columbia
Job Summary
AECOM’s dam program in Canada is growing! We are seeking a Regional Dams Practice Leader that will plan, promote, and implement the Canada Region practice vision. Reporting into the Water Business Line, the successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and development of the dams practice within Canada focusing on water dams, levees, tailings dams and associated infrastructure. They will serve our existing clients, develop new clients, and collaborate with our Global and Regional Practice Leaders to implement regional initiatives. In addition, the person will coordinate technical services and staff within the dam practice to foster collaboration across the region. This role can be based out of any of our Canadian offices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Develops and executes strategic initiative to grow the Dams Practice in Canada
Recruits talent to grow the Dams Practice
Mentors and develops the technical abilities of staff within the Practice
Participate in the AECOM Technical Practice Group (Canada) for dams
Develops effective relationships with key clients and successfully wins work to grow the Practice
Plans, directs, and supervises all operations included in a large, complex project or several moderately sized projects with greater risk and complexity, and significant financial impact
Resolves complex issues
Provide direction to and mentoring to other technical staff in completing project tasks
Performs independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs
Acts as primary point of contact with client and has full responsibility for project delivery
Competent to serve as Engineer-of-Record on design and design-build projects
May be responsible for Project teams that include 10 or more members often representing multiple business lines, working in remote locations and including a subcontractor(s)
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering project, focusing on the unique or controversial problems
Regularly develop and evaluate project plans
Provide advice and consultation to client on engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations
Work with clients to provide long-term solutions
Project leadership in the areas of design, analysis, and construction on various Dams projects.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
12+ years of progressive experience in the field of water resources and heavy civil projects with an emphasis on dams in Canada.
Registered as a Professional Engineer in any of the Canadian Provinces
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from CEAB-accredited institution
20+ years of progressive experience in the field of water resources and heavy civil projects with an emphasis on dams in Canada
Highly collaborative, with the ability to build productive working relationships within AECOM and with project teams globally
Demonstrated experience in pursuing and winning opportunities in Canada with a strong reputation in the Canadian dam market.
Experience in both the private and public sectors including the mining industry.
Proven experience in leading and building multi discipline teams
Ability to attract key staff within the Canadian Dams Market
Active in Canada Dam Association (CDA) and familiar with the CDA guidelines
Experience in client service, marketing and business development
Strong project management skills and experience.
A technical background in one of the disciplines of civil, structural, hydrotechnical or geotechnical engineering
Strong relationship building skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate problem solving skills
Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
Resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Bilingual (English and French) would be an asset
