Position Title Archaeological Technician

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Archaeological Technician for employment in the Burlington, NJ office.
This is a part-time variable position, meaning work days and times will be determined on an as-needed basis.
AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. Some of the projects the incumbent can look forward to include Phase I, II and III investigations for various pipeline, transmission and transportation projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are
Conduct archaeological investigations/excavations
Screen soil deposits
Take accurate field notes
Draw accurate profiles and plan views
Record archaeological field data; use digital camera
Process artifacts (wash, mark and catalog) and perform basic analysis of artifacts
Re-bag and re-box artifact collections for final duration
Perform basic research on manufacturing processes as it relates to recovered artifacts
This position reports directly to a Crew Chief or Archaeological Supervisor when performing duties in the field and to a Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager when performing duties in the laboratory. Must be able to work effectively in both the field and laboratory as part of a team.
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to communicate clearly
Must have knowledge of basic field excavation techniques
Ability to process (wash, catalog and mark) recovered archaeological artifacts, properly fill out field and laboratory forms, perform extensive manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving buckets and wheelbarrows filled with dirt
Must be able to extensively perform bending, kneeling standing and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, prolonged walking and standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions
Must have basic knowledge of GIS applications
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record and the flexibility to travel overnight and out of state for up to 3+ months at a time
Associates or BA Degree in Anthropology, History, or related field or higher and attended an archaeological field school
Previous experience with conducting laboratory analysis of both prehistoric and historic material
Ability to utilize PC data base programs.
Familiarity with cultural resource management protocols
Participation in an archaeological field school
