Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Welder Apprentices 2 nd and 3 rd year to be based in Bonnyville, Alberta.

This position will join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment. Welders develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders, clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch and weld parts together.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Identify stainless steels and welding procedures

  • Identify nickel alloys and clad steels and their welding procedures

  • Perform plasma and oxyfuel cutting procedures on mild steel

  • Prepare, fit up and Bridge tack weld pipe for SMAW/GTAW

  • Feather tack welds

  • Interpret structural drawings, pressure vessel drawings, piping drawings

  • Understand and utilize types and uses of non-destructive testing methods and destructive testing methods. Understand metallurgical properties of steel

  • Understand and utilze welding codes, standards and specifications.

  • Able to pass the CWB "S" class ticket in all positions either SMAW or FCAW depending on what process is required for the job.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be registered in AIT's (Alberta Industry Training) Welding Apprenticeship Program or equivalent from another provincial trades governing body.

  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (OSSA issued ticket is the general requirement).

  • AWP – Aerial work platform.

  • Module structural assembly experience.

  • Iron Workers may also apply.

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid – Standard Level C Certification.
