Our Midlands Cost Management business unit continues to grow with a specific growth demand within the Infrastructure sector (Water, Rail, Power, Highways, Environment, Ports & Marine and Nuclear) where we have successfully secured positions with many high profile clients and some key local projects and programs in the industry.

As a direct result of this growth AECOM is currently seeking a full time Director of Cost Management for Infrastructure.

As Director you will help lead the cost practice across the region, where it has successfully carried out cost management work with many high profile clients and some of the largest projects within the area.

To support AECOM’s continuing success and regional growth we are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Infrastructure Cost Management Director. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in work winning, project delivery, client account management and business growth within the Highways and Rail sectors. Experience of delivering major programmes would also be beneficial.

As a multidisciplinary organisation the candidate will be expected to support our Project, Cost and Consulting business and work closely with our engineering, architectural and strategic advisory businesses. Supporting pursuits at both a local and a national level.

The successful candidate will also have a strong understanding of the Rail and Highways sectors and the business objectives and strategic vison of the clients whom operate in these sectors. A strong appreciate of the regulatory requirements as set down by the ORR would also be beneficial.

Major projects and programmes will also form a key area of growth. Particularly the strategic and major capital projects associated with Network Rail, Highways England, TfL and HS2.

Experience of NEC contracts, alliancing, incentive models and operating within Programme Management environments would also be advantageous.

Minimum Requirements

  • Lead and grow the Cost Management service line within the Infrastructure sector

  • Develop relationships with existing and new clients including internal cross-selling opportunities

  • Lead Cost Management Commissions taking overall responsibility for their successful delivery

  • Provide oversight / strategic guidance to a portfolio of projects being lead within the Midlands

  • Specifically responsible for delegated business development / marketing tasks

  • To provide effective line management to all grades up to and including associates and other directors

  • Experience at a leadership level in a comparative business;

  • Extensive experience acting in a leadership capacity

  • Track record of managing teams

  • Commercial experience is essential along with a proven track record of winning and retention

Core technical competencies will include:

  • Experience in developing and delivering incentive based commercial arrangements

  • Cost Assurance and Benchmarking

  • Demonstrating efficiencies and value for money

  • Appreciation of Programme Management and Project Controls

  • Understanding the regulatory agenda and stakeholder expectations eg SACR, Review Point and P-Rep

As Director you will be assessed by the extent to which:

  • Commissions are managed to the right quality standards and are completed efficiently and on time

  • General line management responsibilities are discharged and the team is led effectively

  • Relationships are developed with clients and members of the cross-functional team

Preferred Qualifications

Ideally Degree Qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar qualification and hold Chartered status.

Good Understanding of contracts, specifically NEC contracts

Experience of systems such as A-Site, CEMAR, eB, Aconex and other collaboration technologies

Strong understanding of NEC Contracts
