Individual offices possess wide range of engineering skills and in depth knowledge of working and covering projects in UK, Europe and Middle East in close coordination between all engineering disciplines. This vacancy creates an opportunity for suitably qualified and motivated individual to join the largest number of ground engineering professionals covering Scotland and Ireland with involvement in UK and Europe wide projects delivering sustainable, resilient and sophisticated transport, water and energy infrastructure schemes and buildings projects.
Will be working on to infrastructure, buildings and power projects in the UK and overseas such as ports, airports, roads and railways, buildings & structures, coastal defenses, power generation, water and waste water schemes.
Will be assisting Principal and Senior level staff in various elements of project planning and budget control.
Tasks will include ground investigation supervision, interpretation of investigation data, derivation of design parameters; ULS and SLS geotechnical designs for deep and shallow foundations, earthworks and cantilever and embedded retaining structures, including soil/structure interaction, using commercial software such as the Oasys Suite, WALLAP, Frew, the GeoSlope Suite and Plaxis; as well as providing geotechnical input under senior staff supervision to design of buried structures and tunnels.
Working under supervision of Principal and Senior level staff on the preparation of Geotechnical Design Reports (as well as Ground Investigations Reports and technical notes) in accordance with nationally and internationally recognized standards.
Assisting Principal and Senior level staff in meetings with contractors and clients, both external and internal and provide geotechnical input to multi-disciplinary project design teams.
Working under Principal and Senior level staff on engineering design, visit sites and write reports, under the supervision of more senior engineers
Working with Principal and Senior staff on the delivery of small projects or parts of projects and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team,
Working under Principal and Senior level staff in bidding for jobs and program and budget control and mentoring junior staff.
Willing and dedicated to learn all aspects a geotechnical design (i.e. working to EuroCode 7 and other recognised standards).
Academic knowledge and some experience of ground investigation methods, soil and rock parameter selection, design of shallow footings, piles and retaining walls.
Basic design knowledge and experience including foundations, retaining walls, soil nails, reinforced soil, earthworks and ground improvement.
Experience of using geotechnical software in earthworks, deep and shallow foundations, retaining structures and systems (such as SlopeW, WALLAP, Oasys Suite). Experience in using FE 2D and 3D analyses (such as Plaxis, Midas) would be an advantage,
Good communication skills both oral and written are required,
Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for limited periods
A civil engineering first degree (BSc, BEng or MEng or equivalent) is essential.
A masters or PhD in a geotechnical subject would be an advantage.
