AECOM is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented senior Structural Engineer for employment in the Baton Rouge or New Orleans, LA office. The Engineer typically may work from home if domiciled within 275 miles of the AECOM office; however periodic visits to the AECOM office requiring overnight stays will be required to coordinate work with team members or to meet with clients.

This full-time employment position will support our hydraulic and marine structures practice in the Design and Consulting Services, Water Business Line, Coastal Department. AECOM designs very complex and interesting hydraulic structures in the U.S., such as flood protection structures, flood gates, pump stations, navigation locks, water control structures and diversions, port facilities, and industrial facilities. This important role is a design leadership position in the structures practice.
The Structural Engineer will perform structural analyses and designs of hydraulic and marine structures and landside support facilities and structures. The Engineer will be in responsible charge of staff engineers performing structural designs and will direct and mentor them. The Engineer will be responsible for planning and organizing the technical approach and executing the engineering and designs, including coordinating with other leads on large projects, and will meet with clients to collaborate on the development of their designs. The Engineer will ensure that all design work is produced on time, to budget and in accordance with the project quality requirements. On smaller projects, the Engineer will also be the Project Manager. The Engineer will provide support during construction to review construction submittals and resolve issues.
The Structural Engineer will prepare written proposals for project opportunities.
Prepare and direct structural designs and associated reports
Perform structural analyses using finite element and frame analysis software
Prepare and supervise the preparation of plans and specs.
Prepare well-documented computations
Complete deliverables in agreed time and cost
Perform technical reviews of E&D work of other engineers
Manage quality assurance (QA) and the checking of all design work carried out prior to formal issue
Be responsible for the accuracy of the team’s work
Coordinate among the other design discipline leads
Manage all aspects of small projects
Meet with clients
Prepare written proposals
Provide engineering support during construction
Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Approves and signs off on work.
Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
Participates in development of technical proposals.
Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
BA/BS + 8 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
MSCE or MSSE
15+ years of relevant industry experience in projects related to designing:
Jacketed and offshore steel construction
Industrial steel structures
Large steel flood gates to close navigation channels, such as sector gate type flood gates
Flood walls and flood protection structures
Reinforced concrete mat foundations and pile caps
Driven pile foundations in coastal areas
Experience with cost estimating and quantity takeoffs for an engineer’s
