Communities around the globe are challenged to find effective ways to manage water throughout the water cycle restoring the water we use to continue sustaining the natural environment. At AECOM, our Water specialists work together worldwide to find innovative solutions to the management of water.
Our work includes, Flood Management, Integrated Catchment Management, Hydraulic Modelling, Hydrology, Sustainable Drainage, Water Sensitive Urban Design, Dam & Reservoir design, Hydro-power, Mains Infrastructure Design (Clean and Foul), Non-Infrastructure Design (Pumping Stations, Storage Tanks), and Hydro-power. Our AECOM water team in Croydon have worked on a wide range of projects. 2 key projects were:
Chester Zoo – AECOM designed unique drainage strategies complementing the attraction’s natural aesthetics, including a bespoke Orang-utan proof filter trench and reed beds that treat runoff from the Banteng enclosure.
Jeddah Stormwater Drainage Programme - AECOM delivered fast-tracked solutions including 10 flood-protection dams and 170km of channels and conduits to protect the City’s 3.5 million residents.
Working on a wide variety of projects with a variety of clients ensures real opportunities for personal growth and career progression as our apprentices & trainees develop professionally within a positive culture where learning and development is actively nurtured, supported and promoted. Main duties and responsibilities will include:
Assist with the production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) models and drawings in line with company and project specific CAD protocols and standards
Work on projects using current Level 2 BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and BIM authoring software (e.g. Autodesk Civil 3D)
Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards
Preparation of simple civil calculations
Assisting with site visits to collect information or observe existing projects
Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
Assisting with data review and analysis
Contributing to providing solutions to technical engineering problems
Meeting agreed deadlines
Working as a member of a team

No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE level (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
Minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade ‘C4’ or above (or equivalent such as Scottish Standard Grade, or Junior Certificate in Ireland), including Mathematics & English
Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software
Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Water Engineering
Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects
English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
