AECOM Environmental Planner in Barrie, Ontario
AECOM 's Canadian Environmental team is actively seeking Environmental Planners of all levels of talent with interest and/or experience in supporting Environmental Assessment and other approval and permitting activities for various business line opportunities including Transportation, Water, Environment, and Buildings & Places.
Successful applicants in the Environmental Planner position will start immediately. This position has flexible work locations in Ontario (Mississauga, Kitchener, Hamilton, Markham, Whitby, Richmond Hill, Barrie, London).

As part of our team, the successful applicant will:
Work with and support Environmental Planners and Project Managers in executing municipal, Provincial and Federal environmental assessments (planning, preliminary design, detail design, design-build and other project delivery models) as well as other approval and permitting activities for infrastructure projects.
Develop and implement consultation programs, including public, municipal, regulatory agency and Indigenous Community engagement.
Coordinate, prepare for, attend, and document project meetings.
Coordinate environmental specialists (i.e., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology, etc.) , including identification of required access to lands for field work and coordination of access with landowners/managers
Maintain, or oversee maintenance of database of lands relevant to projects, including land ownership and use.
Liaise with local, Provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments with various levels of complexity.
Research, conceptualize, plan, and write drafts of reports related to planning, design and permitting.
Liaise with clients by phone, email and in person.
Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and budget development along with participation in industry associations.

BA/BS in Environmental Management/Planning, Environmental Sciences, Urban and Regional Planning or related field
4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education working on municipal, transit and transportation projects in Ontario.
Full or provisional membership in a professional body (e.g. Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP)); Canadian Environmental Professional (EP); or Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
Knowledge of Site Plan Review, Zoning By-laws, Committee of Adjustment process, Ontario Building Code (OBC) relative to building permits is a plus.
Experience with land ownership and land use definition using online databases and ability to interpret and use GIS based resources and systems an asset.
Experience and involvement with delivery of P3, design build and/or understanding of similar project delivery models.
Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Environmental Assessment (EA) Act, and other legislation and policies related to the position (e.g. Class EA, TPAP, EIA, Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act, Planning Act, Greenbelt Act, etc.).
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong problem solving skills and ability to work well with people.
Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
Class G driver’s license.

Limited travel to meet training and project requirements may be required, provided safe to do so.
