Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Train Control Engineer to join our team for several transit/rail systems engineering projects in Baltimore, MD. Our Baltimore office has exciting and challenging rail and transit projects that will provide a wealth of opportunities for a train control engineer.

This position is responsible for applying standard engineering practices and techniques on portions of larger projects. The engineer will be responsible for the design and development of drawings and documentation under the direction of a senior engineer.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Preparing vital and non-vital control circuits.

  • Preparing Vital and non-vital train control software, i.e. Ladder or Boolean logic.

  • Preparing block designs and code charts.

  • Preparing clear, complete, and accurate drawings from rough or detailed sketches.

  • Preparing test documents for interlockings and other field equipment

  • Preparing engineering estimates for work designed

  • Coordinating all train control work with other disciplines, eg. Civil and trackwork.

  • Preparing project documentation, including specifications and drawings, leading to advertised RFPs for Train Control Contracts.

  • Assisting with client proposal evaluations and recommendations for award.

  • Assisting with the exchange of correspondence, submittals and RFI’s on active construction contracts.

  • Researching new projects to provide solutions based on best engineering practices and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or another closely related engineering or engineering technology field

  • 5+ years of experience as a Train Control Engineer at a transit agency, railroad or consulting firm developing the following:

  • Vital and non-vital train control circuits

  • Vital and non-vital train control software, i.e. Ladder or Boolean logic

  • Block design

  • Code charts

  • Test documents for interlockings and other field equipment

  • Train Control specifications

  • Construction cost estimates, Engineering manpower estimates

  • Familiarity with and a working knowledge of AREMA, FRA, MUTCD and the NEC guidelines

  • Field experience conducting cut-over and operational testing

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated strong performance working on teams in a collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in personal performance

  • Strong ability to decipher technical information

  • Working knowledge of industry practices including safety and quality management systems

  • Understanding of contract documents and specifications and the ability to prepare both

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed PE in Maryland

  • Experience as Resident Engineer
