Job Summary

The Role

AECOM’s Civil Infrastructure business unit in New Zealand is looking for a highly talented senior leader to provide business development, technical and leadership to our Ground Engineering and Tunnelling team. The GET practice is made up of 34 professionals in Geotechnical, Engineering Geology and Tunnelling based in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga.

  • Coordinate with Regional Business Line Leadership in the development of strategic business initiatives

  • Generate new business and achieve annual sales goals for the department

  • Review and approve all proposals developed by the department

  • Identify new strategic initiatives and coordinate Talent Acquisition activities with leadership to ensure goals are met

  • Pursuit strategy, and proposal

  • Provide support to and/or act in the capacity of Project/Program Managers as appropriate

  • Monitor and manage the group’s utilization to ensure goals are met

  • Provide direction to the Team Leaders to ensure the financial reporting and administrative requirements are attained

  • Manage Team Leader’s performance, develop and deliver annual performance reviews

  • Establish and maintain productive work relationships with internal and external clients

  • Ensure a safe work environment for staff and monitor project activities to encourage safety

  • Perform department management responsibilities including the review and approval of weekly timesheets, vacation requests, and expense reports for Geotechnical Engineering staff

  • Provide mentorship for staff and develop/adjust group structure with a focus on opportunity

  • Promote professional development and ensure various certifications for staff are attained in corporate, office and industry programs

  • Perform Quality Control Review of all products produced by staff, including proposals

Minimum Requirements

About You

  • 15+ years of experience in the in the Geotechnical and/or Dam Engineering field including 5 years of experience in leadership role

  • Focus and interest in leading business development activities for the Department

  • Experience with a diverse client base including federal, state, municipal and private sectors

  • Ability to understand, lead and manage a team of multidisciplinary staff with diverse professional and technical backgrounds

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanour

  • Proactive on assignments and demonstrate initiative

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering or related field
