Job Summary

An exciting role has become available in our Auckland office for a solicitor with 3 years+ PAE to join our legal team for a 12 month maternity leave fixed term. The successful applicant should have a good understanding of contract law and the procurement process as well as experience negotiating and drafting a range of contracts. Experience managing commercial litigation will also be looked upon favourably.

You will report to our Senior Counsel NZ and work on a variety of legal matters. You will be part of the Support Services team in the New Zealand business and will develop key relationships with internal clients such as the Support Services team, Group Directors, Technical and Industry Directors, Project Managers and Project Directors.

This position will be mainly responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Understanding AECOM’s business and developing strong working relationships with internal clients

  • Reviewing request for tender and expression of interest documentation

  • Reviewing contract conditions and participating in the preparation of commercial strategies for key proposals

  • Advising on the acceptability of proposed contract terms (including JV agreements, D&C contracts, Alliances, PPPs)

  • Ascertain and understand contractual and commercial risks

  • Attending internal Bid meetings and advising on the contractual risks and conditions

  • Manage and negotiate with external clients and vendors regarding contractual, legal and commercial issues, including:

o Tenders

o Pre-signing negotiations

o Drafting commercial and legal documents and amendments to such documents

o Life-of-contract events

  • Comply and assist with managing compliance of applicable laws, policies and procedures, in particular the internal Delegations of Authority (DOA) and the request for approval (RFA) process

  • Assisting with the management of disputes and claims, including professional indemnity matters

Minimum Requirements

  • Admission to practice in NZ (or eligibility for such)

  • A minimum of 3 years of post-admission experience

  • Demonstrated track record of adding value to a diverse and dynamic business

  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in law
