Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Scientist II, Geologist for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform field tasks, such as soil logging, monitoring well installation, sampling, testing, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, etc.

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope

  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and potable water; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork

  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment

  • Gather and interpret chemical and non-chemical data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports, compile and organize environmental data collected by others

  • Apply standard field practices and techniques in specific situations

  • Prepare basic data and scientific documents (reports, etc.)

  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, geochemistry, geophysics, geomorphology)

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Good written and communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Work outdoors at project sites a significant portion of the year. Short term travel is required

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, team engineers, and other staff

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Due to nature of the work U.S. Citteizenship is requried

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • HAZWOPER 40-hour, and current on 8-hour refresher
