Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Planner III – Smart Cities and Mobility Technology Specialist for employment under the Atlanta, GA office.

This position performs professional planning duties related to the development of transportation plans, programs, and projects focused on Smart Cities initiatives and emerging transportation and mobility technology; represents AECOM and our clients at a variety of conferences and public outreach meetings; coordinates comparative studies and planning projects within established timelines and budget parameters; helps administers contracts; performs special projects as assigned and related work as required. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an educational and career path in transit or transportation planning, with proven experience of contributing to planning efforts and other related projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to be highly organized, work well independently and with teams, and the ability to communicate clearly. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports the development and growth of AECOM’s national and local presence as a leader in the research, deployment, and integration of emerging transportation technologies, including connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and planning for Smart Cities.

  • Analyzes planning projects related to transportation including land use policies, impact of projects, and long-range planning needs

  • Defines regional and local transportation planning problems and priorities

  • Prepares reports, recommendations, assessments and impact statements on transportation planning

  • Analyzes data from modeling software, geographic information systems, or associated databases

  • Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation and transit design issues

  • Participates in public meetings or hearings to explain planning proposals, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs

  • Assists with development of project scopes of work (SOW), budgets, and schedules

  • Collects, organizes, and manages data to conduct transportation/transit alignment and facility siting studies

  • Utilizes GIS and other tools including Microsoft Office programs to provide data-driven analysis for planning studies

  • Utilizes infrastructure performance data to support investment recommendations

  • Responds to questions and requests from project team members, clients, and other stakeholders

  • Participates in meetings with clients, members of the public, and other stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, Urban Design, or related discipline

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • Ability to gather and analyze data, provide interpretations, and prepare a variety of reports

  • Must be skilled in oral and written communication

  • This position may require travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, Urban Design, or related discipline. Knowledge of transportation design and consulting services is desirable

  • 7+ years of related experience
