AECOM Architectural Historian in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary

The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Architectural Historian for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential.

This Architectural Historian position will support the multi-discipline environmental group in transportation. This candidate will perform tasks ranging from fieldwork, research, report writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Performs unsupervised field tasks, such as architectural history surveys and archival research.

  • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports of investigations; compiles and organizes data collected by others.

  • Prepares reports including: Historic Resource Survey Reports, Assessment of Effects, HABS/HAER documentation

  • Prepares data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, assessments of effects, agency coordination, MOAs/MOUs, and NEPA documents.

  • Works under the supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Assists senior staff with business development for the Transportation Group.

Minimum Requirements

AA/AS + 1 year of related experience

  • 1 or more years of experience in working with CRM and historic preservation, including the ability to work on a wide range of projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload.

  • 1 or more years of experience with Federal and State CRM requirements, processes, and guidance, including Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), NPS National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) bulletins, Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and the Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA).

  • 1 or more years of experience with NRHP eligibility criteria and aspects of integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

BS/BA or Master's degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or related field

  • Experience in performing historic resources surveys and preparing reports for transportation projects administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and/or the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

  • A high degree of professionalism, self-motivation, and desire to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral expertise.

  • Self-motivated, driven, and hard-working.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment.
