AECOM Energy Engineer in Arlington, Virginia

Job Summary

AECOM seeks a creative, highly talented Energy Engineer in either the Germantown, MD or Arlington, VA offices. The Energy Engineer will perform system modeling, energy analysis, energy management and on-site energy audits for our energy program portfolio. Occasional travel will be required to inspect and analyze facilities. Top performing candidates will be responsive to customer needs and help to identify new and better ways to conduct engineering analysis.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Engineering analysis

  • Energy audits, energy savings calculations and cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECM) at large federal, commercial, and institutional facilities

  • Electromechanical design

  • Energy master planning

  • Project management

  • Feasibility studies

  • Investment grade energy audits

  • Report preparation

  • Developing energy conservation measures

  • Analysis of utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters

  • Energy modeling (e.g. eQUEST, Trane Trace) and temperature-bin analysis methods to calculate savings associated with ECM upgrades

  • ECM descriptions and supporting documents to be included in proposal submissions, and present proposals to clients at oral interviews

  • Financial analysis and reporting

Level Specific Responsibilities:

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignements.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design

elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 4 years of relevant energy engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products

  • Experience performing energy audits of facilities and energy consuming systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Energy Analysis and Energy Auditing, HVAC Design or Energy Management Systems (EMS) Design

  • Certified commissioning agent (CxA) is a plus

  • Master's degree in a related technical field is preferred

  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance is a plus but not required

  • Professional Engineering license is preferred

  • Knowledgeable of HVAC equipment and systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, variable speed drives and motors is preferred

  • Possess a working knowledge of EMS and be able to develop control strategies to reduce energy consumption is preferred

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is a plus

  • Engineering analysis experience within the context of energy savings performance contracts is a plus

  • Energy modeling using tools (e.g. eQUEST, Trane Trace) is preferred
