Job Summary

Arlington, Virginia office of AECOM is seeking a rising professional to join our Buildings + Places (B+P) structural engineering department. Job Summary

Under the direction of the structural department manager and project structural engineers, perform specific engineering tasks for the analysis and design of structural building systems and members utilizing hand calculations and the latest structural engineering software. As part of a multi-disciplinary project team, model complex structures for commercial, institutional and government building facilities. Prepare calculations, details and specifications for a variety of materials, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry and wood. Maintain and organize project-related documentation. Perform construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response and construction site visits. Assist senior staff in the performance of field investigations of existing building structures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structures concentration

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification

  • 1 - 2 years of relevant internship and/or work experience

  • U.S. citizen

  • Experience with building codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 530 and AISC 360

  • Familiar with various software packages for analysis and design of building structures

  • Proficient using computer software to produce structural engineering calculations, spreadsheets and reports

  • Ability to take responsibility for given assignments with general supervision while proactively implementing standard practices and developing new procedures

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Keen interest in the built-environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering

  • Experience with Revit and AutoCad

  • Ability to translate analytical results into practical structural engineering solutions

  • Desire to learn new skills and explore wider engineering and architectural issues
