Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, creative and highly talented Electrical Engineering Department Manager for immediate employment in the Arlington, VA office.

The appropriately qualified candidate will be responsible for managerial direction of the electrical engineering discipline and successful completion of assigned engineering projects. Providing work assignments to discipline project teams and review performance to ensure efficient, cost effective utilization of staff. Serves as technical advisor to electrical staff and performs Quality Control and Independent Technical Review of contract documents. Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Supports business development and bid and proposal efforts.

Additionally, this position is expected to provide Engineering leadership via determining technical and professional staffing needs; participation in need for new hires, trains, manages and motivates personnel. Establishes and maintains quality and accuracy standards. Works cooperatively with other managers and employees to achieve company’s mission.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises the work of multiple technical disciplines with a broad general knowledge of many aspects of engineering for multiple market sectors including government, healthcare, justice, mission critical and life sciences

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all technical aspects of mid-size to large projects.

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies engineering practices commensurate with the needs of the project, including innovative practices supported by science and research

  • Coordinates electrical systems with other disciplines such as electrical, structural, civil, architectural, and facility planning. Performs master planning of large campus facilities’ infrastructure

  • Performs construction inspection and observation on live construction projects and create detailed reports

  • Reviews and revises existing standards of engineering techniques, procedures and practices in building design, construction and building information modeling

  • Prepares engineering estimates, project execution strategies, staffing plans

  • Supports business development efforts including presentations to customers and responding to customer request for bid documents

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

  • 13+ years of experience in design of complex facilities required

  • PE license with the ability to obtain licenses across multiple states by reciprocity

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Well-developed communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Strong team leadership skills

  • Thorough working knowledge of relevant engineering software

  • Can-do, will-do attitude and ability to work in team-oriented organization

  • Interact and communicate effectively with other team members and disciplines. Effective written and verbal communication skills a must

  • ETAP (power system Modeling)

  • SKM (power system modeling)

  • Agi32 (lighting calculations)

  • Experience with Microsoft office suite including word, power point, excel and MS Project

  • Experience with the National Electric Code, Life Safety Code, NFPA 99 and Health Care codes

  • Experience with power system design of medium voltage (38 kV and below) and low voltage systems (600 V and below)

  • Experience with medium voltage power system protective relaying

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 13+ years of experience in design of complex facilities required

  • 5+ years of experience managing an electrical department or a large group of engineers on a project

  • Working knowledge of AUTOCad and REVIT BMS systems

  • Secret or Top Secret Security clearance
