AECOM has a great opportunity for an

Electrical Designer at our office in Annapolis Junction, MD. This is a Power and Cooling Service Provider program for a mission critical customer responsible for the renovation and modernization of new and existing utility infrastructure and buildings. The selected candidate will be responsible for working with field technicians and electricians in order to assign survey tasks and incorporate survey feedback into an electrical power system model. The Electrical Designer is responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline engineers. The candidate will work under the direction of the Design Supervisor or Lead Designer. The candidate will be performing engineering calculations, and analysis, while maintaining complex data. He/she will be responsible for modeling and simulating the electrical infrastructure using the ETAP software, and for maintaining an engineering technical library and informational repositories. In many instances, the candidate will be asked to conduct and analyze load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination and arc-flash studies. He/she will work with customers to gather and analyze critical information and review engineering plans. He/she will coordinate and interface with other numerous Architectural and Engineering (A/E) firms, and be self-contained. This is a technically oriented position that may require intermittent field work.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilize experience in Power Systems.

  • Familiarize themselves with the analysis, simulation, monitoring, control, optimization, and automation of the client’s electrical power systems.

  • Become experienced in utilizing ETAP to provide coordination assistance with protective device selection and coordination, Time-Current Curves (TCCs), and Arcflash Reduction Maintenance Settings (ARMS).

  • Understand codes and standards including, but not limited to:

  • IEEE 1584-2002 & 2018 - IEEE Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations

  • IEEE 242-2001 - IEEE Protection and Coordination of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems

  • IEEE 3000 Standards Collection™ for Industrial & Commercial Power Systems

  • Experience with analytical skills and recovery of failure of Low Voltage/Amp Circuit Breakers (LVACBs), Overcurrent Relays (OCRs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) for known problems or during unscheduled events (e.g. outages).

  • Responsible for reviewing engineering designs and incorporating verified as-built settings into the facility/campus “master model.” Must be capable of reviewing and analyzing equipment test reports.

  • Generate and complete annual revisions and updates to design specifications for complex projects.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

  • Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.

  • Associates degree in a technical field or vocational/technical training beyond high school.

  • 10 or more years of job-related experience.

  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

  • Must maintain a valid state driver license and be qualified to operate general-purpose vehicles.

  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and have a solid background utilizing a computer for basic/intermediate tasks, at minimum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active, fully adjudicated TS/SCI w/poly is preferred.

  • Experience in Power Systems is preferred.
