Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Environmental Engineer for potential employment at Fort Wainwright, AK to support the on-going environmental compliance programs of the installation. This position will work in a team environment to provide support to this active Army installation and help ensure its compliance with various environmental regulations and permits.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in a team environment to provide regulatory compliance support, such as:

  • Providing support for air permit compliance for the installation, including auditing support for individual units/facilities at the installation, air permit/compliance reporting

  • Under the supervision/direction of other team members, provide environmental auditing and compliance support for other permit areas, including the Army’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) implementation and maintenance, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training, reporting, and compliance, management of the installation’s oil storage tanks (aboveground and underground tanks), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting, solid waste/recycling, pollution prevention (P2), and green procurement program (GPP) plans,

  • Evaluate new programs, facilities, or missions to determine air permit/regulatory applicability,

  • Assist in the development and performance of training for installation personnel

  • Develop, maintain, and update US Army databases related to environmental compliance reporting.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. / B.A. in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering, or other related field.

  • 2+ years EHS experience, including air permitting/compliance experience

  • Motivated/results-oriented

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Critical thinker; thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment; Ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment and offer solutions when issues arise

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in regulatory compliance, particularly with air permitting and regulatory compliance and experience in conducting air permitting compliance audits and training

  • Experience working with military installations.

  • Knowledge of domestic United States regulatory compliance programs, including Title V permit programs and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs).

  • Knowledge or experience with environmental regulations applicable to aboveground and underground storage tanks (ASTs/USTs).

  • Knowledge or experience with EPCRA, RCRA, and/or TSCA.

  • Experience with database development and management

  • Experience interpreting regulations and standards

  • Experience conducting regulatory review audits

  • Experience conducting training classes

  • OSHA 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER)
