Position Title Survey Party Chief, Senior Construction Engineer

Job Summary

Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a Survey Party Chief to be based in our Aiken, SC location.

The Survey Party Chief performs and coordinate survey activities to support Construction, Operations and Maintenance initiatives. Interface with applicable organizations (i.e. Engineering, Supervision, Operations, Design) to perform assigned tasks. Generate excavation layout sketches and modify site maps as required using applicable survey software. Monitor and control schedule/budget and manage planning and performance of field activities


  • Manage and coordinate survey work activities / crews performing field surveying in support of construction / maintenance activities or operations requests requiring a full working knowledge of all construction survey practices.

  • Provide technical and operational direction to survey crew members.

  • Operate a variety of survey equipment and instruments in performance of physical layout work.

  • Responsible for operation of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment to locate underground interferences and embedded commodity interferences.

  • Provide precision dimensional verification of commodities during fabrication or as-builts.

  • Provide precise dimensional layout support for critical location / setting of equipment and/or commodities.

  • Provide Topographic and Boundary surveys in accordance with site procedures and tolerances.

  • Prepare detail drawings and sketches using Micro-station, including interference research for excavations and information sketches.

  • Prepare as-built field maps for use in Site Maps upgrade.

  • Responsible to monitor/ensure survey equipment is calibrated.

  • Perform walk downs and review designs for constructability relative to survey / layout.

  • Provide interface with applicable organizations for safety and/or security concerns affecting proposed or in-process survey activity.

  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information:

  • Position requires a working knowledge of survey / layout and Ground Penetrating Radar equipment and a thorough understanding of practices required to perform various survey activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical/science discipline and 4+ years construction engineering or practical construction experience OR;

  • High school diploma/GED and 10+ years combination of secondary education and/or practical construction experience

  • Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic training / experience in use of Trimble Total Station survey equipment

  • Robotic Total Station

  • GPS/GNSS Units

  • DINI Level

  • Access Data Collection Software

  • Trimble TSC2 or TSC3 Data Collection

  • Basic training and/or experience in use of 3D Laser Scanning Technology

  • Basic training and/or experience in use of GPS Survey Technology

  • Experienced in survey network control

  • Familiar with Carlson Survey Software
