AECOM Facility Maintenance Technician III (1st shift - M-F - 6:00 am - 2:30 in Aberdeen, Maryland

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 1st shift Facility Technician to support our operations and maintenance team within a million square foot distribution center in Aberdeen, MD!

This position typically works Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm; scheduled work hours may vary to provide for off-shift coverage based on critical business demand, and may include rotations, weekends, holidays, rotations and alternative work schedules.

This position interfaces with multiple levels of the AECOM organization and client representatives. This position is responsible for maintaining buildings, facilities and equipment in an operating and functional condition. Duties may include any of the following: electrical repairs or installations, fleet repairs, plumbing, welding, carpentry, painting and plastering, masonry, machine servicing, and general mechanical maintenance (e.g. Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning or HVAC and sheet metal).


  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of air handling equipment at this facility such as vent fans and circulation fans.

  • Ability to identify and correct problems except for major repairs, i.e., compressor replacement on facility equipment.

  • Must maintain a strict PM schedule.

  • Ability to maintain A/C and heating equipment, change filters and clean coils as needed.

  • Ability to repair and unclog toilets, urinals, replace and maintain valve assemblies and repair/maintain sensors for automatic flush kits, as well as all other plumbing related to the facility.

  • Ability to perform minor electrical functions

  • Ability to use electrical testers and an Amp Probe to troubleshoot electrical circuits, such as power and lighting.

  • Ability to repair walls, floors, doors and any painting and touch up work for beautification of facility.

  • Perform repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on buildings and facilities, equipment, fixtures, and systems.

  • Assist in the movement of furniture, materials and equipment as required.

  • Work with and/or oversee subcontractor activities as directed by supervisor or work schedule.

  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain facility systems.

  • Higher level technicians perform basic leadership skills associated to training and mentoring lower level technicians.

  • Ensure that work orders and monthly PM’s are completed as required.

  • Complete daily work logs with detailed information and maintenance reports in an accurate and timely basis.

  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems.

  • Adhere to business code of conduct and other Company policies and protocols.

  • Maintain professional and courteous customer relations including client, vendor, and internal team at all times.

  • Maintain safety work practices as defined by the Company.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision or oversight, while still maintaining a high level of quality and safety.

  • Ability to identify and wear appropriate PPE per application.

  • Other duties as assigned by Management or Lead.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High School graduate or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Three years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires ability to move heavy objects, such as motors, etc. (may be more than 50 pounds).

  • Requires ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods and frequent bending, twisting, reaching and turning

  • Requires ability to work from heights, ladders and elevated platforms.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of various hand tools.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Requires keyboard skills and visual activity associated with the use of keyboards and terminals.

  • Some tasks may require repetitive wrist movements.

Special Requirements:

  • Must wear steel-toed safety shoes, safety glasses and gloves as well as any other required PPE.

  • Keyboard skills and visual activity associated with the use of keyboards and terminals.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency alarms.

  • Requires the ability to operate forklifts, power and hand material moving equipment.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one‑on‑one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Coping with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Basic electrical knowledge required (changing motors, fuses, etc.).

  2. Basic pneumatic/hydraulic knowledge required.

  3. Training/experience in conveyor repair/maintenance includes replacement of rollers, motors and mechanical equipment.

  4. Working knowledge of hand and power tools.

  5. Strong mechanical aptitude.

  6. Plumbing, welding, HVAC, and/or carpentry experience.

  7. Basic computer keyboarding skills for data entry purposes.

  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  9. Experience and knowledge of the Rite Aid Distribution Center in Aberdeen.

  10. Availability for overtime, holidays and weekend work as required by critical business demand.
